VERMICULITE DISPOSAL
This process isn’t just “haul it to the dump”—it’s a regulated chain-of-custody system:
attic → containment → packaging → paperwork → transport → verification → disposal → signed proof
Miss one step and we risk:
- Rejected loads
- Fines
- Liability
- Contamination issues tied back to us
How the Disposal Process Works
Asbestos containing Vermiculite isn't as simple as a vacuum and dump job.
Asbestos is highly regulated and highly hazardous material so deposal requirements are controlled and comprehensive
DISPOSAL
Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency Requirements
01
Controlled Removal
It’s transported through a sealed vacuum system or controlled removal process maintaining monitored negative pressure and extensive HEPA filtration
02
Sealed Containment
Deposited into a lined and contained trailer designed and built to far exceed Spokane County Air Quality standards
03
Adequately Wet
Material must is constantly wetted as it enters the containment and transport trailer with water atomizers as an extra precaution so fibers aren't released into the air.
04
Legal Handling
At this stage, we are already legally handling asbestos-containing material (ACM) preventing fines or citations that could potentially slow or halt removal.
Asbestos Disposal Process
Understanding the proper disposal requirements for asbestos abatement is crucial for safety and compliance. At Pacific Insulation & Abatement, we ensure that every step, from controlled collection to final documentation, adheres to strict regulations. This guarantees not only the safety of our team and clients but also the integrity of the environment.

Documentation Requirements
Before leaving the job site, essential paperwork must be completed:
- Asbestos Survey (AHERA)
Identifies materials and confirms presence or presumption of asbestos. Must be completed before disturbance
- Notice of Intent (NOI)
Filed with the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency
Typically requires a waiting period before work begins
- Waste Shipment Record (WSR)
It includes:
- Job site (generator) info
- Contractor/operator info
- Transporter info
- Disposal site (Graham Road)
- Type and quantity of material
- Certification that material is properly packaged
Required for transporting asbestos waste
These documents ensure a clear chain of custody and compliance with local regulations, protecting both the contractor and the environment.
Chain of Custody
The WSR tracks the material from start to finish:
Step-by-step signatures:
- Generator (Pacific Insulation & Abatement) signs → confirms proper packaging
- Transporter (Pacific Insulation & Abatement) signs → accepts responsibility
- Disposal facility signs → confirms receipt
This creates a legal paper trail proving:
- where it came from
- who handled it
- where it ended up
